States League - North Division |
The Cotton State Baseball League
– North Division is a pro-style, 5-team summer collegiate league for players with remaining college
eligibility.
The CSBL North will operate at a
single site in 2009 and 2010 – Legion Field at the New Albany Sportsplex just off US 78 (future I-22) in New Albany, Mississippi.
The CSBL North teams will be
identified and promoted in five geographic locations across north Mississippi – Ripley/Tippah County, Oxford/Batesville,
Columbus/Starkville, New Albany, and Tupelo. Team names
are Tippah
County Tribe,
North Delta Dealers, Golden Triangle Jets, Tallahatchie Rascals
and Tupelo Thunder.
The CSBL
North will be operated by Mississippi Select Sports/Mississippi Select
Baseball in partnership with the CSBL South which is owned and operated by former
major-leaguer Chris Snopek and his Performance
Sports Academy in Jackson,
Mississippi.
The CSBL
North will play a 24 game schedule in June and July culminating with a
championship tournament. The CSBL will also play a North/South mid-season
All-Star game.
The CSBL
is a pro-style, wood-bat league.
The CSBL
North will feature a collegiate level internet website complete with full
league stats, news, schedules, standings, and player and coach profile pages.
Each CSBL
North team will employ coaching staffs with wide-ranging baseball connections,
including collegiate and professional contacts and involvement. Buddy
Hall, an officer in NEMCABB organization, will coach the Tupelo Thunder; Curt
Fowler, the head coach at Blue Mountain College, will coach the Tippah
County Tribe; Chris Basil, the head coach at East Union HS and a former
Ole Miss player, will coach the Tallahatchie Rascals; Doug Robbins, the
head coach at Water Valley HS and a former Delta State player, will coach the
North Delta Dealers; and Gregg Tucker, the head coach at Baldwyn High
School, will coach the Golden Triangle Jets.
The CSBL
North will extensively promote its players and activities to NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA
and professional scouts, coaches and recruiters. The CSBL will comply
with player eligibility requirements. Players will receive NO
compensation for their participation.
The CSBL
North is not a host home league. Players involved will reside temporarily
or permanently within a 150 mile radius.
Players
may apply for entry into the league at this time.
Players
will be provided two team jerseys and a team cap. They will be required
to provide other necessary uniform items and gloves/mitts. Wood bats will
be provided by the CSBL.
